We have already talked about how Trinkets completely changed the game meta in Season 8 of HS Battlegrounds. In this article, we will analyze all Lesser Trinkets that you can get on turn 8 and divide them into a tier list so that it’s easier for you to navigate through the article. For a more in-depth look at this season, check out our full Hearthstone Battlegrounds Strategy guide. Keep in mind that this is a general tier list of Lesser Trinkets and that there can be times when some trinkets might be more useful then others due to the variations that we can’t cover here (hero power, current board, duos setup, etc). Without further ado, you can check out our full Lesser Trinket Tier List for Hearthstone Battlegrounds season 8.
S Tier Trinkets
Trip Vouchers
We start with one of the most obvious choices for S tier when it comes to Battlegrounds Trinkets – Trip Vouchers. In short, this is a game winner if you have any kind of decent tempo and sustain while the trinket starts to really scale. Having two Greater Trinkets can be simply OP and you should go for it no matter what kind of build you are running.
Azeroth Model Globe
One of the most controversial trinkets is Azeroth Model Globe – it is a bit slow but it does offer a lot of advantage if you are lucky. It is great to chose if you are not sure what comp you want to go for as you can decide based on the first six-tier minion that you get.
Eternal Portrait
As it’s the case with most “portrait” trinkets, you should go for this if you already have 1 (or two) Eternal Knights. It offers a great tempo as you instantly get Reborn+Taunt on all your Eternal Knights and even the scaling is decent for mid to late game.
Goblin Wallet
One of my personal favorites is Goblin Wallet. Having good economy is something that can easily propel you into the first 3 spots in Battlegrounds and this is the trinket that you want to go for. It’s counterpart, the Greater gold trinket is not worth as this one. The only downside is the fact that you will lose some of your tempo so you need to build defenses fast if you take Goblin Wallet.
Shaker Portrait
Although Naga tribe has been heavily nerfed by removal of Shelemental in the beginning of Season 8 of HS BG, Shaker Portrait is still an S-tier Battlegrounds Trinket in our opinion, providing that you have at least one Deep Blue Crooner on the field. It scales really well and it’s super easy to use so you will not regret it.
Souvenir Stand
Similarly to Trip Vouchers, this Lesser Trinket allows you to essentially double your Greater Trinket. However, since you will need to wait three turns for this Trinket to have effect, it’s a bit of a risk to take it. If you do, be sure to offer enough sustain and not lose (too many) health while you are waiting for your greater one.
A Tier Trinkets
Rusty Trident
Generally speaking, this trinket is both a tempo-boosting and an eng-game one. The main downside of Rusty Trident is the fact that you are committing yourself to Naga tribe early on – but if you have several Naga units on the board, you can go with this one and see where it gets you.
Nomi Sticker
Does anyone remember panda from Season 4? Well this is it – basically this sticker does the same thing as Nomi did – your Elementals will be upgraded every time you play one. Again, similarly to the last one, the main downside of this trinket is the potential overcommitment. But hey, who dares, wins right?
Twin Sky Lanterns
Twin Sky Lanterns is good for Automaton builds as it increases it’s innate power. Furthermore, this can be used in Murloc hand scam builds. There are quiet a few options for this Battlegrounds Trinket.
Yogg-Tastic Pastric
Yogg-Tastic Pastric is basically the most RNG thing in the game – you will be spinning the Wheel of Yogg-Saron in the begging of every turn and who knows what you might get. Usually, this trinket is good for tempo. However, the wheel is unpredictable and sometimes … well let’s just say that things might no go as you want to. Good luck!
Felblood Portrait
If you have one Fiery Felblood on the board, take this – it will propel your Demon army in the Tavern and since there are several low-level Demons with “devour” abilities it will offer some tempo boost as well. However, your main goal is clear if you take this – you need Felbat if you are going to win the game.
Fishy Sticker
Fishy Sticker is one of those Hearthstone Battlegrounds Trinkets that has so many uses that we can write an entire guide about it. Undead, Beast, even Quilboars and Pirates can use this trinket. It is a bit unpredictable, especially early-on as you won’t be able to position your army in the optimal way but more often than not, it is a good choice to go for.
Belcher Portrait
Operatic Belcher while everyone is on Tavern Tier 3? Enter Belcher Portrait – this thing is really good. It will instantly give you 2 Venomous units (providing that you have another Murloc) and will scale a bit each turn – good enough to be in our A-Tier.
Automaton Portrait
Although heavily nerfed, Automaton is still a pretty good minion and it’s portrait is great if you have one of them on the board. It’s not something that will win you the game – you will still need your Greater Trinket for that, but it is a good tempo trinket to have.
Book of Medivh
Generally speaking, considering the cost, Book of Medivh is a good pick. There are plenty of useful Tavern Spells that you can go for and this trinket will allow you to do that for free (well, after you pay 4 gold for it). Pick it if you don’t have anything else that is good.
Comfy Coffin (Lesser)
Comfy Coffin is one of those “commitment” trinkets that are great – but only if you have some kind of tribe lineup already. If you don’t have anything, skip it cause it’s not worth it.
Rewinder Portrait
If you have one Wrath Weaver or Soul Rewinder on the field, this trinket works like a charm – it will provide you a good tempo boost that will be even better if you at least had one Malchazar.
Windrunner Necklace
This is a very niche trinket that can be used effectively with Pirate and Undead builds. Just think about it – every time your left-most minion attacks, it gets +8 attack. So, if your pirates attack 3 times, all of them get it. All your Reborned undead on left side get it as well. It can be useful but you do need a specific composition for it.
B Tier Trinkets
Dalaran Cheese Wheel
Dalaran Cheese Wheel is a decent option but only if you are lucky enough to get Recycling Wrath. If you don’t get him, you pretty much wasted your Lesser Trinket. So, it’s a tough one – should you risk it?
Tiger Certificate
This is a dragon-exclusive trinket; and as such it is in B-tier because frankly, Dragons are not good. This trinket is really weird when used with Poet – your Poet will pretty much always be your lowest attack minion so Tiger Certificate will usually just double one minion’s attack (that will remain, the one next to Poet). So… good luck! 🙂
Ship in a Bottle
Generally speaking, this is actually an OK trinket for Pirates. The main issue with this one is the fact that it’s random and it just provides tempo boost – which is fine if you need it, just keep in mind that you will still need to for the full pirate build if you want to be in the first 3 spots.
Hoggy Bank
Hoggy bank is a Quilboar exclusive Battlegrounds Trinket that does give you some tempo in mid-game but it is very risky and generally very slow. Chances are that your Blood Gems will not be buffed at all at this point and that you will just be getting several stats buffs every turn. Pick it if you have a decent Blood Gem buffs ready – if not, go with another tempo Trinket.
Replica Cathedral
Sometimes you get really bad trinkets for your Lesser ones. If that is the case and you see Replica Cathedral, you can take it – it is a decent tempo boost but it won’t really change much. The strongest spells are the ones that target one minion (like Eyes of the Earthmother) and they don’t have any use with this Trinket. The lower-tier ones are fine to be used with this just don’t get your hopes up.
Alliance Keychain (Lighter)
Another Dragon trinket is Alliance Keychain – and again, it has a really weird synergy with Dragon comps. Chances are that Tarecgosa will be your strongest unit and naturally you would want it to die first so that the stats spread to other two minions – but then, if that happens, do you have Poet ready and will you be lucky enough for the stats to hit adjected minions? Or if Tarecgosa doesn’t die, what if a weak minion dies instead? A lot of IF’s with this one ..
Holly Mallet
A rather decent and straightforward trinket for Dragons is Holy Mallet – it works well with Tarecgosa and Poet builds. Pretty much this trinket will allow all your Dragon units to have Divine Shield. You just have to hope that you can buff their attack somehow.
Artisanal Urn (Lighter)
It’s okey for tempo – but that’s about it. Nothing fancy with this one, you get +3 Attack on all your Undead units and that’s it. It doesn’t scale and it is totally depended on your board at the moment.
Blingtron’s Sunglasses
Blingtron’s Sunglasses is mech-exclusive Hearthstone Battlegrounds Lesser trinket that has a really wierd and kind of RNG dependent synergy with the rest of the Mech tribe. First off all, it won’t work well with Deflect-o-bot because he will get the Divine Shield anyway if you summon a minion. Secondly, the minion that you summon will probably not be a strong one (reborn) and you don’t want that one to get Divine Shield as well. Finally, the minions that remain after you summon will either be the ones that still didn’t fight (and thus probably have Divine Shield already) or the weak ones. Pick something else if you can.
Bob-Blehead
Instead of me rambling about math and how Bob-blehead affects your choices in Bob’s Tavern, will just leave this bob-blehead guide on reddit where a guy pretty much did all the math. In short it’s good – but not too great. It will increase your chances of getting higher level minions but not too much so you don’t really need this unless you are targeting a very high-tier specific build (like high Pirates or Quilboars).
Inkeeper’s Stein
Inkeeper’s Stain is similar to Bob-blehead as it will give you more choices with high-tier units. Not much to say about this Lesser Trinket in HS BG because it’s totally RNG and it depends on what you have on the board and what you are looking for.
Quillgraphy Set
Quilligraphy Set is more of a end-game Trinket than a tempo-boosting one – and that is why you don’t really need it as your Lesser Trinket. The thing is, main issue with Quillboars is low mid-game survivability and this Trinket will most certainly not help with that.
Token of the Old Gods
Pretty much the same as the Inkeeper’s Stain, Token of the Old Gods is not something that you should rely on – it is decent and chances are that you will be able to get a minion or two that you need from it but it’s still totally RNG dependent.
C Tier Trinkets
Booty Bay Brew
Just … skip this one. Booty Bay Brew is a Lesser Trinket in Hearthstone that is supposed to offer some tempo boost but in reality it really doesn’t do much – you will get around +5/+10 per turn on random Pirate minions that you will most likely sell soon anyway so you don’t really need this one.
Lucky Tabby
Lucky Tabby is one of those RNG trinkets that doesn’t really do much even if you are lucky. The best thing that this Trinket can give you is Macaw or possibly a Lasher for self-inflicting build but other than that it’s pretty useless.
Charging Staff (Lesser)
Although on paper this Battlegrounds Lesser Trinket looks good, in reality you won’t use it too much, at least not in the early and mid-game. It will be very effective in the end if you get Divine Shield on all your Mech (or Dragon) minions but at that point it won’t really mean much.
Lorewalker Scroll
This Trinket is pretty straighforward – and pretty weak I might say. You won’t have a lot of spell generating Naga’s in the beginning and if you do, that means that your comp is probably weak to start with. Having +2/+2 with each spell won’t really give you much tempo and that’s why this one is in the lower tier of our list of Lesser Trinkets in Battlegrounds.
Kaboom Bot Portrait
If this would a list based on how entertaining and annoying for opponents the Lesser Trinkets are, Kaboom Bot Portrait would surely end up in S-tier. However, although it’s fun to see things being blasted by your Kaboom bots, it doesn’t really scale well and the tempo boost that you get will only last for couple of turns after which this trinket will became useless.
Tiger Carving
Tiger Carving is an oke-ish trinket if you want to commit yourself to a beast build (self-inflicting one). The main issue is the fact that you need to commit before you can possibly get any of your key minions.
D Tier Trinkets
Smuggler Portrait
Dragons + Smuggler Portrait is a good way to decrease your rank in HS BG. Putting all your money on one Smuggler that gives +1 Defense when his ability is triggered (and that’s not so often) is really weak and it doesn’t provide tempo nor late-game capabilities.
Darnassus Pie
It’s slow, you don’t have enough money to really use it’s full potential, you are committing to Elementals before you have any key Elemental minions and you should stay away from it. Darnassus Pie is not a good pick IMO.
Dragonwing Glider (lesser)
Dragonwing Glider is one of those tribe Lesser Trinkets that doesn’t really offer much – you will be getting some attack points on random Dragon several times (at best) each turn and it won’t do much for your tempo nor for your late game comp.
Colorful Compass
There is not much to say here – it’s good if you get a good minion that you need at this point. If not, it’s not good. So that’s why we are putting it in the lower Tier, because you can’t really rely on this Lesser Trinket and surely there are better choices.
Glowing Gauntlet
Glowing Gauntlet is just too weak and we are sure that it will get buffed in one of the next patches. If it was at least +4/+4 maybe then it could make some difference.
Lava Lamp
Unless you are playing Milhouse and Elemental build (the only that you can play with him), this trinket is no good – it’s slow, you get random stuff that you don’t need and you don’t even get it that often. Stay away from it.
Rockin Music Box
Generally speaking, it’s not good although depending on what tribes are in the game, it does have some potential for tempo boosting. Look closely on what is in the game and based on that decide if you can get some Battlecry minions that you might use.
Staff of the Scourge
Since this is a Lesser Trinket, Staff of Scourge is not that efficient. The thing is, at this point you want to buff up your Undead units as much as you can and you want to give them reborn so that they get more buffs – and Staff of Scourge is better in very late game since you don’t really need Reborns after so many hits (Avenge 5).
The Eye of Dalaran
It looks to me that someone at Blizzard wanted to make a no-type minion build, made this Trinket to start with, and then gave up on the build. I mean, it doesn’t have any synergy with any build and it’s totally random. Pick it and see for yourself! 🙂
