Frost Mortal Kombat – Character Breakdown

Frost is one of the most iconic female characters in the Mortal Kombat series. Since her first appearance in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as an Earthrealm warrior trained by the Lin Kuei (Sub-Zero’s clan), she has become a fan favorite. Her personality is arrogant, and her moves and appearance will freeze the hearts of even the biggest Shirai Ryu fans. Winter is coming, and so is the full breakdown of Frost from Mortal Kombat.

Appearance and the first impression of Frost in Mortal Kombat

Frost is the only female character in the MK universe that possesses powers to control ice. When Frost first appeared back in 2002 Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, she had taken fans by storm. Her distinct look with short, spiky ice-blue hair was just totally different than other female characters. Frost had one really cool and special thing when it comes to her looks, which is the mist coming out of her spiked hair. As the games progressed and the stories changed, so did her design and costume.

In the 2nd timeline, she appears in Mortal Kombat X as an NPC, but her design isn’t as appealing as in MK: Deadly Alliance. The artist fixed that in Mortal Kombat 11 where she was a playable character once again. One more thing is interesting that in Mortal Kombat 11, all the characters seem more realistic unlike in previous games where they seemed more cartoonish. In Mortal Kombat 11 she isn’t a human she’s a part of the Cyber Lin Kuei initiative. This means that she is a cyborg with cryomancing abilities, and her hairstyle is more emo-like from the early 2000s.

The Story of Frost

After the events of Mortal Kombat 4, Sub-Zero wanted to save the Lin Kuei Clan. The old Grandmaster of the clan believed that the only true path for the clan’s evolution was through the cyber initiative. This idea caused problems amongst the clan’s members, with Sub-Zero, Smoke, and Cyrax being against it. After the Cyber Lin Kuei was formed and Sector was defeated in Deadly Alliance, Sub-Zero became the new Grandmaster of Lin Kuei. Once he took over, he started to rebuild the clan and organized a tournament, which Frost won.

After they’ve started training Sub-Zero learned that even if she is a cryomancer she is a hothead. Frost only had abilities like Sub-Zero but has a personality like Scorpio or Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Frost has defeated Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and taken over the Dragon Medallion. As it was revealed she never liked Sub-Zero she just wanted to be the grandmaster and have all the power for herself. Just like in Lord of the Rings, the One Ring was too much for Boromir to handle, and the Dragon Medallion was too much for Frost. In the end, Sub-Zero took her body and buried it in the Cryomancer temple.

In Mortal Kombat Deception, we see that Frost wakes up not long after Sub-Zero leaves the temple. It seems she was just in a “coma” and wakes up with outrageous hatred toward Sub-Zero. Frost believes that Sub-Zero attacked her and left her to die. As it was revealed, she descended into madness, thinking that every person she encountered was Kuai Liang, aka Sub-Zero. Once she encounters Sub-Zero, he defeats her and freezes her in a block of ice, somewhere in the depths of the Lin Kuei dungeons. Frost is once again woken up by Taven in MK: Armageddon and is defeated by him immediately. Her final appearance in the original timeline was in the battle of Armageddon, where she battled on the side of the forces of darkness against the forces of light.

Kronika saw my talent from the startFrost (Mortal Kombat)

In the new timeline after the events of Mortal Kombat 9, Frost appeared in the Mortal Kombat X comic books. She participated in an underground tournament and was defeated by Cassie Cage. Frost also made a brief appearance in Mortal Kombat X’s main story, where during a peace talk between Sub-Zero and Scorpion, Frost tries to attack Scorpion. After a few hits, Sub-Zero freezes her and warns Scorpion of Frost’s hotheaded nature.

In the latest game, MK11, Frost has joined Kronika, the Keeper of the Hourglass. Kronika knew that Frost wanted to become the Grandmaster of Lin Kuei. The first time we see Frost is in the Sub-Zero and Scorpion chapter, where she is guarding the Cyber Lin Kuei facility. She is now a cyborg and doesn’t have a normal body anymore. Her final appearance was when the Cyber Lin Kuei attacked the citadel. She was defeated by Raiden, who short-circuited Frost to stop the never-ending invasion of the Cyber Lin Kuei.

You always doubted me, Sub-Zero. Held me back. Kronika sees my true potential.Frost (Mortal Kombat)

Powers, moves, and abilities

As you already know, just like Sub-Zero, Frost is a cryomancer. All of her powers and moves are related to controlling ice. However, unlike Sub-Zero, she doesn’t freeze enemies – that was true until Mortal Kombat 11. Now, Frost can freeze her enemies too with a special move. Frost typically freezes the ground around her and the enemy, allowing her to approach and slide toward them quickly. Since she isn’t as powerful as Sub-Zero, she is faster, which can be a huge advantage. Another famous aspect of Frost is her ability to create ice daggers and stab her enemies, as seen in MK Armageddon. In MK 11, Frost gains even more cybernetic powers thus truly embracing her cyborg nature.

One power that’s similar to Scropion is teleportation, she performs an uppercut after she teleports behind the opponent. In MK11 Frost got an amazing ability to launch her head like a rocket and detonate it. She also has new cyborg-like abilities since she became one; for example, she can create two drills to drill her opponents which is an awesome combo. Frost can create ice scythes to perform brutality by chopping opponents’ heads off. Another cool feature of the cyborg body is that she can use a “core” similar to that of Ironman to cast some kind of blue bean (which is for ice control probably). Frost can put that “ice core” in the body of her opponent and perform amazing brutality or fatality by detonating it and freezing the body. Another amazing power is that Frost can self-destruct in MK 11 which makes an awesome brutality.

Frost special moves

Overall as you can see cybernetic Frost has a bigger arsenal of moves, weapons, and tricks. Also, her X-Ray brutalities and fatalities are some of the best in MK 11.  We are crossing our fingers in hopes of seeing her in the new Mortal Kombat 1 game. Now let’s see what are some of Frost’s most iconic moves of all time.
