If you enjoyed Legend of The Seeker and still can’t deal with the fact that the show was canceled before season 3 was released – you have come to the right spot. When we made the list, we made sure that the essence of what made the Seeker great was in those shows as well – great cosplay, fantasy show vibe, decent acting, and a marry-band-of-heroes-saving-the-world plot premise. 15. Carnival Row

Amazon Studios has surprised us with Carnival Row back in 2019. The show stars Orlando Bloom, Cara Delevingne, and many others. The story is set in a dark Victorian-based fantasy world where “immigrants” from other worlds are coming to Earth. A detective (Ornalnod Bloom) and a faerie (Cara Delevingne) investigate a spree of murders that build up to a greater conspiracy. The costume design and character development are amazing. The design of mythical creatures such as Marrok, Faun, Kobol, etc. is amazing.
Unfortunately, production has been postponed since in 2020 COVID-19 outbreak began. That was one of the reasons why the show was canceled after the second season. Yet another reason is that Amazon put billions of dollars into producing the biggest disaster since the last season of GoT and that is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. If you like TV shows like Legend of the Seeker be sure to check this instead of Rings of Power.
14. Eragon

One of the most underrated movies like Legend of the Seeker is probably Eragon. A story about a boy who discovers that he’s a Dragon Rider and has to save the mythical land of Alagaësia. Along the way, he meets a beautiful elven princess Arya, and a bunch of other mythical creatures. Eragon is a classic among fantasy fans and movie reviews mixed critics. On the good side, it’s at least visually stunning.
The actors didn’t do the job well and the story was not faithful to the books. These are just some of the problems, but also some events and characters changed to a certain degree. Still, the movie is better than most adaptations of books and movies where they change absolutely everything; from genders to the whole point of the book/comic.
13. Emerald City

Quite a unique show on this list based on the Oz book series. The show is about a girl Dorothy Gale portrayed by Adria Arjona who’s taken away by a tornado from Kansas to the Land of Oz. Dorothy is seeking her biological mother and in Oz, things just keep getting darker. The whole tone of the series is reimagining the old Wizard of Oz but in a darker tone with some major changes.
The problem was that the audience didn’t quite like it and it was poorly advertised. They could’ve done much more with what the studio had, but the show only lasted for one season. The good thing about the show is that you’ll see a bunch of characters that we all loved during our childhood.
12. The Hobbit Trilogy

Since I’m a fan of fantasy myself, it’s impossible not to look for any movies like Legend of the Seeker. Hobbit movies are the most beautiful fantasy movies of all time, but they ended up with too many fillers. Don’t get me wrong, the acting, details, and story were pretty amazing, like anything written by Tolkien. The biggest problem was that there weren’t any memorable characters in the story. Do you still remember all the dwarfs’ names, how about the main antagonists? The story was built upon the pillar and fame of LoTR and the studio hired the same director Peter Jackson, but you can’t step the same river twice.
If you’re just looking for more than 9 hours of pure fantasy in a beautifully crafted world, go and give The Hibbit trilogy a shot. if you’ve watched it only in the cinema like I did back in 2010 trust me, you’ll be surprised at how cool it was. Also, you’ll be surprised how studios nowadays can’t create anything even close to this “masterpiece”.
11. Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

One of the best 90s shows alongside Xena and X-Files was Hercules. For all of you fans looking for shows like Legend of the Seeker, you’ve hit a jackpot with this one. The show revolves around you’ve guessed it Hercules and his adventures in an enchanted ancient Greek world. After his stepmom Hera, kills his wife and children he wanders around the world with his best friend Iolaus. We can see many mythical creatures from Greek mythology like the Cyclops, and Minotaur but also Xena appears on the show, and some monsters from other cultures like Lucifer.
Overall the show is a bit cringy if you look at it from a modern perspective. Some of the jokes will probably be too cheesy and the acting isn’t that good since it wasn’t a high-budget TV show. Nevertheless, it won’t disappoint since Kevin Sorbo’s portrayal of Hercules is Legendary.
10. Conan The Barbarian

This one is a classic and must-watch even for Gen Z’s since the impact of Conan. Nevertheless, the 80s was probably the best era for Conan-like movies and that’s the whole fantasy genre kicked off. If you like TV shows like Legend of the Seeker you’ve probably watched or heard about the Conan movies. The plot is rather simple Conan’s tribe has been massacred by snake cult and he is seeking revenge for the death of his parents. The leader of the snake cult is probably the coolest villain Thulsa Doom. Along the way, Conan fights and meets wizards, witches, and other mythical creatures.
What’s the best part of this show is that the Conan was portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was the perfect fit for the role and other Conan movies and spinoffs are great too; they include Conan The Destroyer and Red Sonja.
9. His Dark Materials

Probably the best adaptation of books in the last couple of years was for sure His Dark Materials. The book follows Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry on their journey across the parallel universes to overthrow Authority; a god-like creature that controls and multiverses. What was so good about the TV show was the cinematography, acting, and most importantly good writing. For those looking for shows like Legend of the Seeker, this is the perfect match.
The show aired for three seasons and it was a great success, with each season covering about a book more or less. Anyway, if you’re a fan of fantasy and sci-fi genre you don’t want to miss on this one.
8. The Outpost

In this show, we follow a gorgeous girl called Talon played by Jessica Green who’s the only survivor of a massacre that happened in their village. She belongs to the race of Blackbloods who have superpowers of summoning Lu-Qiri, demon-like creatures, and super healing ability. Talon is on a search to find those who killed her entire village. In the series, there are numerous creatures like zombies, prophets, demons, etc.
Just like Carnival Row the show got delayed during the pandemic and finally canceled. The main reason why The Outpost was canceled was viewership decline and production costs where post-pandemic inflation played a key role.
7. The Lord of The Rings Trilogy

Probably the best fantasy trilogy ever made with 17 Academy Award wins. You probably know that LOTR’s The Return of the King is the only movie besides Titanic and Ben-Hur that won 11 out of 11 Academy Awards. The only movies like Legend of the Seeker that I approve of are these, alongside Hobbit and Conan. The plot is pretty complex, but let’s say that Frodo a hobbit, has to put an end to an Evil Lord Sauron, by tossing his ring into a volcano in a faraway land; which by the way looks like hell on earth. Frodo is not alone as he becomes a part of the Fellowship of the Ring.
In a story like Legend of the Seeker, there’s a lot of magic and it’s filled with different races of mythical creatures. The story doesn’t have some major plot twists like GoT had, but that doesn’t define a masterpiece. In my humble opinion, a simple story with good character development some good writing, and a decent adaptation can do the trick just as much.
6. The Shannara Chronicles

We start our list of shows like Legend of The Seeker with an adaptation of a fantasy novel “The Elfstone of Shanarra” – The Shannara Chronicles. The show aired back in 2016 and had two seasons before it was canceled in 2017. The setting and the plot premise are almost identical to LoTS: a group of heroes, some armed with magic, some just with blades, are saving the world from impending doom. The gist of this show is the fact that although the setting looks like a magical land, it feels dystopian and post-apocalyptic.
The problem with the show was that it wanted too much and aimed to attract a younger audience with modern dialog and slang that just didn’t fit in the fantasy setting. Be it as it may, the show is watchable and relaxing, and most importantly similar to our Seeker so you can give it a shot.
5. Merlin

The next stop in our quest to find the show most similar to Legend of the Seeker takes us to one of the most famous names of the fantasy genre in general – Merlin. The Arthurian legend was revived back in 2008 by BBC and has had a solid run of 65 episodes spanning through 5 seasons. The show is not the same as the legend of Merlin that we all know, it is more like a loosely “based on” type of series. Arthur is in it as well and over some time, he and Merlin go on a series of adventures.
The show was highly praised and gained a lot of sympathy among fantasy genre fans of that time. The cosplay and the visual effects are decent and Colin Morgan nailed it as Merlin. That being said, the dialogs are a bit cliche and could have been written better – but hey, at least you will get that 90’s show vibe while watching it. It is worth your time, especially if you like TV shows like Legend of the Seeker.
4. Xena: Warrior Princess

For all the 90’s kids, Xena was a sight to see on the telly. It has remained the same although many shows with the same premise have been made in the previous 30 years. One of the reasons why Xena is on our list is the fact that Sam Raimi, the creator of Legend of the Seeker, was also the producer of Hercules and Xena: The Warrior Princess. To state the obvious, Xena is much more quirky and less “serious” than Legend of the Seeker. The show ran from 1995 until 2001 and has been rewatched numerous times since then. This is also one of the first shows that had a strong female lead and thus had a great influence on future television series of the fantasy genre.
Portrayed by Lucille Frances Lawless, Xena reanimated a famous myth and gained numerous fans in fandom. Although the visual effects can’t compare to present-day shows, Xena: Warrior Princess is still enjoyable and we recommend you (re)watch it, especially if you enjoyed Legend of the Seeker.
3. Shadow and Bone

Shadow and Bone is another interesting pick if you want to watch a show similar to Legend of The Seeker. It is a Netflix adaption of a novel by Leigh Bardugo and, at least to Netflix standards, a pretty good fantasy TV show. It is decent in all aspects – the visuals are probably the thing that sticks out the most but the acting is pretty good (most of the time). The first season, released in 2021, was well-admitted amongst the fandom. However, the second season, which was released just a few months ago, was deemed a bit dull compared to the first one, mainly because there was so much politics involved in it.
Be it as it may, Jassie Mei Li did a great job in her portrayal of Alina Starkov, and the rest of the crew, especially Ben Barnes (general Kirigan) performed decently as well. Although this show has some modern-day problems, it will still give you that Legend of the Seeker vibe that you crave.
2. The Witcher

Our pick for the second TV show closest to Legend of the Seeker is The Witcher. There are several reasons why this show is so high on our list – first of all, the Witcher and his companions do resemble Richard Cypher and his gang. Both teams have a similar structure: a sword-wielding lesser magic user (Richard Cypher and Geralt of Rivia), a wizard or a sorceress (Zedacus Zul Zulander and Yennefer), and tons of other magic users in both teams. One might argue that the character of Cara Mason is like no other but still, there are plenty of similarities between The Witcher and Legend of the Seeker.
The Witcher has finished its third season and has had a rocky journey to it. Henry Cavill left the show over a supposed dispute with the writers and to be honest, after watching season 3, he can’t be blamed. The first season was a bit confusing for the viewers because of the different timelines but overall, it was an interesting fantasy work of art to watch on modern telly. The second season gave The Witcher a push and many viewers were confused about why Mr. Cavill decided to leave. However, the third season flopped big time. We won’t get into details now, we will just say that the writers tried to add a game-of-thrones style of politics to the show and failed, leaving the future of this show unpredictable.
1. The Wheel of Time

Throughout the last 3 decades, there have been numerous debates about whether The Sword of Truth book series that Legend of the Seeker is based on, is just a copycat of its predecessor – Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time. The arguments were inconclusive but one thing is for sure – they are pretty similar in many aspects. For that reason, the adaptation of the Wheel of Time book series has to be on top of our list of shows like Legend of the Seeker.
It would be even more interesting to see how similar the book series were if the writers decided to follow the source material entirely – but they didn’t. In our opinion, this is one of the reasons why the fandom of Wheel of Time is so unhappy with the adaptation, but the writer came senses before the in 2nd season. For all the Seekers out there, this will be an amazing experience at least in comparing striking similarities between these two TV shows.
