In this article, we will talk about the Undead tribe in Hearthstone Battlegrounds. Since this tribe has its specific mechanism, mostly involving Reborn mechanics, we suggest that for build tips, you check out our Undead meta build first and then look at this article for further analysis of all minions.
This Hearthstone Battlegrounds Undead Tribe overview is up-to-date with the latest Season 10 patch
Without further ado, take a look at what Undeads have in store for us in this season of Hearthstone Battlegrounds.
Tier 1 Undead Minions
Harmless Bonehead
Not so harmless after all! Hamrless Bonehead is only harmless in its name – this minion is overall a very good one. Early on, it is basically a 3/3 minion that can hit several times. Later, when Undead attack power gets ramped up, it can provide enough sustain even until late-game phases. Definitely, a worthy pick, even if you are not playing Undeads.
Risen Rider
Another minion that’s overall good is Risen Rider. Since the general rule of thumb in the first turn is to take whatever has Reborn or Divine shield, this minion is a good choice in that matter. Furthermore, once you get your Undead offensive power up, it can still be useful, especially since it has Taunt as well.
Tier 2 Undead Minions
Eternal Knight
Eternal Knight is an okay minion. Although his power on paper looks good, in reality, it’s just too slow to be relied on. If you somehow manage to get several of these guys and have some cast: Reborn capabilities, it can get you through mid-game. It is really only viable if you get a core Trinket that works with him.
Scarlet Skull
Scarlet Skull is generally a nice tempo minion because it has a reborn, and you get plenty of stats in this stage of the game. You can’t really make it work in the later stages, but it’s good with the combination of Corpse Refiner and other Undeads.
Nerubian Deathswarmer
One of the key minions in this tribe is Nerubian Deathswarmer. Its effect of giving Undeads +1 Attack for the rest of the game is best utilized if you can trigger the Battlecry several times (Brann, Rylak, Murkeye, etc). Even if you don’t have Battlecry triggers, it’s still a good idea to buy him early on, as he will buff up all your low-level minions, such as Risen Rider and Harmless Bonehead.
Tier 3 Undead Minions
Cadaver Caretaker
Cadaver Caretaker is one of the main minions for the Catacomb Crasher build, which requires Titus and Abomination. It is considered a decent tempo on Dead, especially if you played a Nerubian Deathswarmer and you got your attack up. Just know that if you’re going for the “Attack” Undeads and that build, the Caretaker can take up a lot of space up with its skeletons, and it’s not really ideal. This minion is primarily used in the late game with the Catacomb Crasher build, not with the other “Attack” build.
Handless Forsaken
One of the most underrated Undead minions is Handless Forsaken. This thing gets so OP later on that even the stock version is still a must-have. If you can, cast Reborn on it; once you do, you will have a minion that will reborn and summon 5 times (Deathratte-Reborn-Deathrattle-Reborn Hand-Reborn Hand)! You don’t need a golden one, though – your main power will come from Undead attack buffs, so you can just get two of these and put them on the board. Also, be sure to align your forces properly so that no Deathrattles and/or Reborns are wasted (don’t forget, Deathrattle occurs always before Reborn).
Anub’arak, Nerubian King
Anub’arak is one of the key minions in Undead tribe if you are going for a traditional Undead build. It’s Deathrattle buffs the main offensive weapon of this build, and that’s its attack. You would really want to have Reborn on this guy, as his ability is pretty slow (just think about it, for just +5 attack, it will take 5 turns). The other option is to go with Titus Rivendare and improve Deathrattle with his innate ability.
Mummifier
Mummifier is pretty decent because it’s a tier 3 undead that gives you a reborn on one other undead. It can work pretty well with Anub’Arak or any undead who can gain a lot for getting reborn in the early stages of the game. It’s generally a good pickup, but in the later stages, you probably won’t have extra space for him.
Tier 4 Undead Minions
Prosthetic Hand
Prosthetic Hand has two main uses – in the Mech tribe, it is pretty much a must-have in all sorts of builds. In the Undead tribe, it can be used as a buff minion for your Deathrattle minions if you are playing a traditional build.
Maw Caster
Generally speaking, Maw Caster is very good because he can get you those key undead that you’re looking for. And also, you can play around with reborn mechanics by destroying your undeads. He is especially good if you get the Maw Caster Portrait trinket and start just playing around, destroying your undeads and getting a lot of gold. All in all, a good utility undead that is introduced in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 10.
Tier 5 Undead Minions
Sinrunner Blanchy
Sinrunner Blanchy is a weird one because it pretty much stands out in the Undead comp in terms of its abilities. There are a lot of ways that you can boost its stats and even get the Divine Shield on him. But in terms of synergizing with other Undeads in a fully-fledged Undead build, he is a bit of an outlier. Nevertheless, you can still buff him up with Noisul or Wisp in the Shell and get the attack by Butchering.
Moroes, Steward of Death
Moroes, Steward of Death, does one thing exceptionally well. Get the mid-game tempo if you’re already playing an undead build. Discovering this on early turns, while you have a few undeads on your board, will ensure that you have a lot of stats, and you can go and look for a more late-game undead like Catacomb Crasher and Drustfallen Butcher.
Drustfallen Butcher
Drustfallen Butcher is practically the core Undead in the Attack Undead build because of the Butcheringspell generation. You basically have two ways of playing Undeads. Either you get a lot of stats with Crasher and Noisul, or you focus a bit more on the attack and summonings with a Drustfallen Butcher. Do keep one thing in mind that in the later stages, once you optimize your board to get those Avengers up, you’re going to need to sacrifice a lot of high-tier Undeads in order to get the full benefits from Butchering. It’s to say basically that you need a lot of money for Undead generation.
Catacomb Crasher
Catacomb Crasher has had a lot of changes throughout recent patches, and the most recent iteration is that he gives only undeads plus two plus two permanently. So the main spillover build with stuff like beetles and so on is gone. Catacomb Crasher only focuses on undead, and it works pretty well with Cadevar and Titus to get those stats up.
Wisp in the Shell
Wisp in the Shell is a pretty interesting new undead, but it kind of falls short because undeads aren’t really supposed to play with Brann, and if you want to effectively use this one, you will need Brann. He is good if you, for example, need extra HP and survivability on your Titus or a specific undead like Champion of the Primus, but generally speaking, there’s not really a good build around Wisp in the Shell. It’s more of a utility minion that you just pick up or get at some point in the game to boost HP of a key minion like Titus or Champion of the Primus.
Tier 6 Undead Minions
Archlich Kel’thuzad
Archlich Kel’Thuzad is a very good utility undead, but you need a bit of a setup in order to get the full benefit out of him because he pretty much requires extra space. The idea is that he destroys an undead with Reborn, that undead re-summons itself on the field, and he summons another one with Reborn. All in all, you get one copy of a certain undead, but without the Reborn. This is usually good if you want to triple something or if you want to combine it with Sinrunner Blanchy and make a build around that particular minion, because it keeps its stats.
Noisul of the Many Faces
Nousul of the Many Faces is the newest undead in Battlegrounds Season 10 and is a pretty interesting one because of the stat gain. There aren’t really too many situations that lead this minion to winning you the game, but additional stats on undead are always welcome, and you will always have something to summon. Since there are a lot of ways that you can discover or generate undeads, getting one or two of these golden can ramp up the stats pretty quickly, especially on minions that can benefit the most, like Sinrunner Blanchy.
Eternal Summoner
Eternal Summoner does a specific job very well. He is good in the early, mid, and late game. The combination of Reborn plus summoning an Eternal Knight is decent with every build, as well as just going for tempo. He can also be used for the niche Eternal Knight build if you get your trinkets up correctly. All in all, a good overall undead that can be played in many different ways.
Deathly Striker
Deathly Striker is a pretty powerful minion that goes really well with “Attack” undead build, as well as just generating you extra Undeads, because you will definitely need it if you don’t have resource-focused Trinkets. You can get a lot of good undeads, and this minion is good for combat as well as gaining extra resources in the form of undead. Be wary because the Avenge 4 is pretty rough, and you will need a lot of taunts and reborns in order to play Deathly Striker effectively. She is good, but you really need to have a good lineup on your board in order to maximize its potential.
Tier 7 Undead Minion
Stitched Salvager
Stitched Salvager is a very interesting minion that had a crazy mechanic in which he can eat himself and then play with a lot of shenanigans. This isn’t the case since Season 10 because he can’t eat himself. Nevertheless, he can be used to eat a key undead and summon him later on. He is a bit niche now, but nevertheless, it’s a good addition to any undead army.
