The day has come – Annihilus has hit the spotlight cache and we are sure that many of you are wondering how this new card is performing. We will get into details on the best Annihilus decks in Marvel Snap but for now, just a few tips: Annihilus is a card that’s basically used for toxic and clogging decks. The premise is to play something that has negative or 0 power and use Annihilus to throw that to the opponent, disrupting their play. If you are a beginner, Annihilus is probably not the best way to go as you need many pool 3 and higher pool cards so we suggest you check out the Marvel Snap beginner guide first. Without further ado, let’s see why Annihilus decks are some of the best decks in Marvel Snap right now as well as some tips and tricks on how to use this card most efficiently.
Annihilus Strategies: Tips, Tricks, Synergies and Counters
Let’s take a look at the bright side of Annihilus first. The card has 5 Energy cost and 7 Power so that’s overall decent. Shang-Chi can’t counter it but it is formidable even for a turn 6 play. However, the biggest strength of Annihilus lies in its On-reveal effect: Your cards with 0 or less Power switch sides. Destroy those that can’t. Note that cards on all three lanes that can switch sides will switch. Also, note that only cards that have 0 or less power that can’t switch sides will be destroyed (on your side).
Annihilus Card Synergies
There are some obvious synergies that we can go through now. These cards are useful in most Annihilus decks:
- The Hood: Having -3 power and getting a Demon with 6 power is fairly nice. However, with Annihilus you can actually switch the side of The Hood and make this effect even more stronger. Definitely a must in most Annihilus decks.
- Hazmat: Usually, this card is used with Luke Cage in Toxic decks. In Annihilus decks you don’t really need Luke Cage as you want the negative power to affect some of your other cards like Black Widow, Spider-Ham, Mysterio clones, etc. so that they can switch sides once you play Annihilus.
- Sentry: This is probably the most obvious synergy between Annihilus and other cards. Playing Sentry on turn 4 and following with Annihilus switching Void side leads to the astonishing 27 power change (you get 17, the opponent gets -10). The only downside here is that this play is a bit predictable, but we will get to that in our deck-building part.
- Debrii: Another pretty obvious synergy is between Annihilus and Debrri; Debrii clogs the opponent’s side with rocks and Annihilus switches even more rocks or at least destroys the ones on your side. Pretty cool, right?
- Viper: This card is your fail-safe in case you don’t pull Annihilus. With Viper, you will at least be able to switch sides of Void. Just be sure not to play the Debrii-Sentry-Viper combo as there is a chance that Void stays on your side.
Annihilus Deck Counters and Weaknesses
Now it’s time to talk about the counters for Annihilus decks. The obvious one is, since Annihilus’s ability is on-reveal, the same as Debrii, Cosmo. Playing Cosmo right will counter all of this but the question is, can you have the priority and predict where Annihilus will land? The biggest counter for all Annihilus decks is Annihilus himself – if you see your opponent going with one of the Annihilus builds you can let them play him on turn 5 only to play your own Annihilus on Turn 6 (or even turn 5 if you don’t have priority) and return all of the junk back to your opponent’s side of the board.
Finally, let’s talk about the biggest weakness of Annihilus decks – and that would be the predictability of them. As soon as you see Debrii, The Hood, or Sentry, you are pretty sure what the rest of the play will be. Another great weakness are Destroy decks as they can pretty much destroy everything you throw at their side. In order to avoid this, we decided to test out some counter-counter Annihilus decks and offer them as a solution. The first one is a highly predictable but also a classic Annihilus deck. The basic premise of this deck is to clog your opponent’s lanes with various junk all while decreasing their overall power with Man-Thing and Hazmat. The deck is not so easy to play as this is a toxic type in its essence – and that’s basically like playing with fire. The gameplay goes as follows: Until Turn 4 just try to play junk in one lane and semi-junk (Spider-Ham, Mysterio Clones, and Black Widow) on another. You can proceed with Man-Thing decreasing the power of semi-junk cards or Sentry Play on Turn 4. On Turn 5 you can hit Annihilus and switch all of that junk on your opponent’s side. In the final turn, you can hit America Chavez on whatever lane you need since at that point the game is probably over.
The good thing about this is that it’s very frustrating to play against and your opponents will often retreat on Turn 5. If they decide to go for a win, you have America Chavez in here as additional Power on Turn 6. Optionally you can replace her with Allioth but that’s a really risky play as you need the right set of cards before that in order to gain priority on the final turn. Another weakness of this Annihilus deck is the fact that it almost doesn’t have any counters (except for Spider-Ham which is more like a meme counter). If you are competing in higher ranks you will need to add some counters depending on what type of decks you are facing the most. Take a look at the next deck that we described if this is the case.

As we mentioned several times, predictability and lack of counters are some of the weaknesses of Annihilus decks. This deck however can circumvent that and offer you some versitaility depending on what you are facing. Super Skrull is there for all sorts of ongoing decks as well as an anti-knull card. Shadow King works great with Shang-Chi on Turn 6 against High Evolutionary decks.
Furthermore, the clogging mechanics that you still have with Debrii, Green Goblin, and Sentry should counter a lot of Discard decks as well. Cosmo is just a great counter for all sorts of decks so he is there as well. This deck should be played in the same way as the first one that we described – it just has several counters that allow you to be competitive in higher-ranked matches.

Toxic, Reactive, and Location Control all in one deck – that’s what this Annihilus deck is all about. It will take some time to get used to this but really, if you are up against an opponent who has encountered many Annihilus decks, you need something to surprise them. That’s why Super Skrull and Professor X are in this one. There are counters like Cosmo and Super Skrull here as well.
The main idea of this deck is that it’s a surprise hit. One location has to be secured on Turn 5 or at least have the Void in place so that you can hit Annihilus on Turn 6 securing the win on two locations. The other option is the standard Professor X + Klaw play followed by Demon. The weakness of this deck is your left lane so if you play conguest your opponent will start to understand what you are trying to do.
